A point in time which describes the release or loss of control over a hazard. The undesired system state.
A main event describes the point at which we no longer have satisfactory control over the hazard.
Normally it is what we consider an unsafe state that is not yet an accident. Therefore, major events, while not disasters in themselves, have the potential to become one if nothing is done to control them and could create considerable losses.
